Library of Things
Donβt buy, borrow
Transition Chesterfield is looking to set up a Library of Things in the town where people can borrow, share and return items, building a culture of sustainability, cooperation and reduced waste. It will offer access to a wide variety of items that can be used without the burden and cost of ownership.
Next steps
We are currently looking for suitable premises and obtaining grants to start up the project Some donations of items have already been made. Everyone probably has things in their garage that they have used once, but keep just in case they need it again.
π§ Save money β borrow instead of buy (great for occasional use tools).
π± Reduce waste β fewer new products, less landfill.
π οΈ Support green skills β repair, maintenance and DIY learning.
π€ Foster community β shared spaces and volunteer involvement.
We hope that a Library of Things will be operational in Chesterfield in 2026.
