Active Travel
Active travel (walking, wheeling or cycling) is important as a sustainable means of travel that can help reduce reliance on cars (both for shorter journeys and as part of longer journeys on public transport). It has has multiple benefits for individual health and the community.
We’re campaigning to make it easier in Chesterfield.
What We Do
We want to make Chesterfield safer and more accessible for people travelling around without a car. Supporting active travel is a way to reduce emissions, cut congestion, and create healthier neighbourhoods. Our activities include:
Responding to planning consultations and transport plans to promote walkability and reduce car dependency.
Walk of Fame and Walk of Shame case studies — showcasing pedestrian infrastructure that deserves praise or improvement.
Pedestrian audits and surveys, including a major 2023 crossing survey in the town centre.
Car-free walk leaflets, designed for people without cars or who want to leave them at home.
Campaigning for safer streets, including support for the 20’s Plenty campaign for 20mph residential zones.
