At the Transition Special event on Saturday 18th April, we launched five working groups, each focussing on a different topic. Look out for more info coming soon - on the groups, when they are meeting and what they are doing. For now, here's a quick run down of the groups and what's happened so far. Have a look in the
image galleries for notes from some of the groups.
Food group - looking at sustainable local food production. The biggest and most popular group at the launch! Ideas discussed included setting up a community supported agriculture scheme, running further potato days and a 'festival of fruit', setting up an 'Abundance' project to harvest otherwise-wasted fruit, and working with the Hunloke Community Garden.
Renewable energy group - looking at local renewable energy generation. Ideas discussed included setting up a community owned hydro-electric scheme and harvesting waste heat from the hospital incinerator plant!
Energy efficiency / eco renovation group - looking at home energy effiency and eco-renovation. Ideas discussed included creating a directory of local trades people and suppliers that can supply and install eco-friendly products and insulation, holding eco-homes open days and sharing skills and knowledge within the group.
Transport group - looking at sustainable local transport and reducing the need for transport. Ideas discussed included better timetable information for public transport, through-ticketing for different bus companies, and cycle training for adults.
Local economy group - looking at strengthening the local economy. Unfortunately the group didn't really get started this time round, due to a family emergency, but I'm sure its time will come!
