Why do we need to talk about values? Nothing we do or say is value free. People make decisions based on the values they hold, frequently without being aware of what is influencing them. Emotion rather than facts motivate people to tackle important issues or deny them. The dominant cultural values will not motivate people to change in the ways necessary to make a successful transition to a sustainable way of living. Raising awareness of values is the first step to questioning those dominant social values.

Articulating the values that drive us to tackle transition issues will help to activate and strengthen those values. Agreeing our core values will strengthen our sense of direction. Identifying our core values will help us to be more coherent and integrated in deciding what to do and how to do it. Identifying our shared values will strengthen the relationships within the group.

We hope that conversations had now will help us progress more smoothly and effectively.
