A significant section of new cycle route has just been finished in Chesterfield. The route from Park Road to Hipper St South and Derby Road is now surfaced and complete. The whole area is still fenced off until the opening of the new B & Q but when open will provide traffic free links for cyclists and pedestrians.
Fencing Removed
I was riding past the new B & Q today and noticed the fences have been removed around the entrance. I took the opportunity to cycle into the site along the new paths as far as Park Road. Unfortunately all the other access points are still fenced off! I had to retrace my steps.
Should be April
I spoke over Christmas to some of the staff at the Chatsworth Rd B&Q and they said that the opening should be April/May. They also mentioned that the existing store was leasehold, so we should keep a good eye on what may replace it...
Cheers

Special opening ride?
Wouldn't it be good if we could do a special mass ride down the new bit of route when it is newly opened? It would be a celebration and a thank you and a way of letting everyone see where it is. And it might help to demonstrate the need for a crossing from Queens Park on to the new bit of route.

Definitely agree
It's a critical part of the local links, and we should celebrate it being finished.
I do think we should push for a raised cycle priority crossing over Park Road though - not another get-off-push-the-button-car-priority-wait-10-minutes-get-20-seconds-to-cross toucan crossing...
