A fully illustrated report on the 'Transition Special' event held on Saturday 18th April, from our own totally unbiased and impartial correspondent. The event included our first AGM, the launch of our first working groups, banner sewing, tea drinking, mapping and more...
At 2:30pm the crowds poured in (okay, there were only about 30 of us, but it was a sunny afternoon and Chesterfield were playing at home). Each new arrival was signed up (in biro, not blood) as an official member of Transition Chesterfield, and set to work hand stitching a fabulous technicolour banner of recycled fabric, and mapping the uncharted territory of sustainable Chesterfield.
world as we know it, the opportunities to be seized, and our collective exploits of the past year. (Unfortunately the full presentation was too big to put on the website, but you can read Bill's script here).
Under Jessie's direction, five intrepid individuals promoted their ideas for Transition Chesterfield's first working groups, and the inspired crowds rose up to contribute their own ideas and suggestions for action (and to drink tea and eat delicious home made biscuits at the same time). After a time, everyone chose their preferred working group, and plotting and planning started in earnest.
Groups were formed on the topics of renewable energy, food, transport and eco-renovation. Each group discussed innovative and imaginative (and some plain common sense) ideas for projects to change the world and make Chesterfield a more sustainable place. After all that excitment, it was time to wind up the afternoon with a high speed AGM (apologies to everyone who felt it was too fast). The esteemed
Treasurer gave her report on Transition Chesterfield finances (they are looking okay) and a new steering group (consisting of Andy, Ellie, Bill, Jessie, Susan, Will, Anne and Ian) was voted in.
Then we all packed up and went home for a well deserved rest.
