Get involved

Transition Chesterfield is all about ‘unleashing the collective genius’ - and that means we need you!

There are loads of different ways you can get involved, so there's something for everyone. We sometimes put out specific requests for help, which could include making teas at an event, running skills share workshops, putting up posters, researching willow coppicing, and all sorts of other things.  For now, here are some general ideas to get you started.

Sign up to our mailing list to keep up to date with events and news. Send us an email if you would like to be added to our main mailing list, or sign yourself up to the yahoo group through this link.

Come along to one of our regular meetings, events or workshops. We usually have skills share workshops and other events on the go. Have a look at the events page for more information.

Take action. If you have an idea for a practical project you’d like to see happening, make it happen! We would love to support you in teaching knitting, creating a community orchard, salvaging bikes, setting up a car share scheme, organising a seed swap... Tell us what you’re thinking of and we’ll do our best to help!

Get up to speed on peak oil, climate change and Transition. Have a look at our links page, buy or borrow a copy of the Transition Handbook, visit an inspiring project.

Look at your own life. Calculate your carbon footprint; have a think about how you can reduce your dependence on fossil fuels. Is your house properly insulated? How far did the food travel to reach your plate?

Spread the word. Talk to your family, friends and colleagues and invite them to join in. Find out what’s already going on in your community and help us link together different organisations.

Take part in the forums to share ideas, debate the issues, meet other people and find out what’s going on. You’ll need to set up an account on this website to post messages to the forums.

Join a working group. We’re planning to set up working groups on topics such as food, transport, homes and energy in the next few months. Watch out for announcements, and let us know if you have a particular interest in being part of one of the working groups.
