We have a small collection of informative and inspirational (and sometimes scary) DVDs on climate change, peak oil, and positive solutions to both, which are now available to loan.
If you've missed one of our public film screenings or want to share a film with family, friends or colleagues, this is for you!
You can watch the DVDs in the comfort of your own home, or - even better - screen them at your club, church, workplace, school... We can supply you with Transition Chesterfield leaflets, and a sign-up sheet for people to join our email list, if you want to help promote Transition.
We ask for a £10 fully-returnable deposit for each DVD borrowed, plus £1 per week for loans of DVDs to help cover costs. Usually we can organise pick up/delivery/handover of DVDs in Chesterfield for free, but if we need to post you a DVD we'll need to ask you to cover the postage costs.
If you would like to borrow any of our DVDs listed below, please email film[at]transitionchesterfield.org.uk.
Our DVD film collection
An Inconvenient Truth
Al Gore’s box office hit documentary on climate change. Packs in lots of facts and figures, interwoven with Al Gore’s own story, but a bit short on real solutions.
The End of Suburbia – oil depletion and the collapse of the American dream
Rather doom-laden but instructive documentary on peak oil. Explains the concept of peak oil and demonstrates how suburban America (and most of the rest of the Western world) could grind to a halt as oil becomes scarcer and more expensive over the coming decade.
The Power of Community – how Cuba survived peak oil
Inspirational documentary exploring how Cuba survived a dramatic cut in oil supplies after the collapse of the USSR. Focuses on the switch from industrial farming to productive urban organic gardens. Also looks at how the oil shortages affected transport, education and other areas of society and daily life, and starts with a brief explanation of peak oil.
A Convenient Truth - urban solutions from Curitiba, Brazil
Another more optimistic documentary, this one describing some of the visionary solutions being implemented in the Brazilian city of Curitiba. Looks at their public transport system, urban green space and solutions to flooding, affordable housing and amazing recycling rates. Includes interviews with city planners.
