Last Monday (23rd March) we had a very interesting and inspiring workshop on Community Supported Agriculture - a model that could help us produce more local and organic food in Chesterfield. Kirstin has kindly sent us copies of the two presentations, and after prompting from Dominic, Jessie also wrote up some notes from the evening.
The evening was led by Kirstin Glendinning, who works part time for the Soil Association, encouraging and supporting people to set up CSA schemes. Very appropriately, she also works part time on a farm near Leeds, where they have a CSA market garden (produces organic veg boxes), a CSA for organic chicken, a CSA for organic pigs, and hopefully soon a CSA for organic dairy goats.
About 20 people attended the workshop, and after the presentations from Kirstin on what a CSA is, how it works and all the benefits of doing one, we had a lively and positive discussion about existing local food projects in Chesterfield, and scope for setting up new CSA projects.
