Unless you are a Gold Card holder or using one of the weekly tickets bus travel can seem rather expensive. A family of four travelling into town just over a mile can pay a return fare of over £9.00. This compares to the sometimes free parking offers in the town.

Special mention should be given to the circular bus No 33 which links all the hospital sites in town. This service is at present under threat if Derbyshire County Council remove the subsidy. There is a little known service from Morrisons supermarket to Heath village operated by G J Holmes.

If travelling to other towns and cities by train think about buying a PlusBus ticket. They give you unlimited travel on buses at your destination (they can also be bought for travel in Chesterfield) with some restrictions. Contrary to the advice often given at Chesterfield railway station Sheffield PlusBus IS valid on Sheffield Supertram.

For a day out within Derbyshire the Derbyshire Wayfarer ticket is a bargain. £8.90 for an adult including one child, £15.10 for a family ticket. It is a 'day rover' ticket valid on virtually every bus and train within Derbyshire and some connecting train services outside Derbyshire (notably Sheffield). More details here.
