AGM 2010, 15 May

Our second Annual General Meeting is coming up! Yes, we’ve survived another year, and it’s been a very busy year indeed. Please come and join in the celebrations, 15 May at the Friend’s Meeting House, 27 Ashgate Road, S40 4AG, opposite the Goldwell Hill allotments, 2pm-3.30pm.

There will be Fun Stuff: we’ll talk about all the projects that are already happening or that people want to get started on, and you’ll have a chance to join in with them. We’ll also give you a chance to meet other transition people who live near you, and talk about things you’d like to do in your neighbourhood. And, everyone who attends will get a free potted plant (something edible) to take home. If you have a project that you’d like to talk to the rest of the group about, please let us know.

There will also be some Legal Stuff. Last year we kind of rushed through this, but this year we’ll take it a little slower. We’d like to change the structure of the organisation to make it easier for people to get involved. Rather than having a Steering Group that you need to join at an AGM, we thought it would be better if anyone can come to any of the meetings. We’ll announce the meetings through the email list, and post summaries of the meetings on the website. We’ll have a Core Group, consisting of five people, including the Secretary and Treasurer, who will need to be elected at the AGM, who will be ultimately responsible for decisions involving money and other assets of Transition Chesterfield. Please feel free to nominate yourself for this, or for the positions of Secretary or Treasurer if you so desire.

So, we have to change certain parts of our constitution, and that has to happen at the AGM. An amended version is here. We’ll discuss the changes and vote on them at the AGM. The main changes are as follows:

  • We are no longer able to discriminate according to race or ethnic origin (not that we every did)
  • General Meetings (formerly called Steering Group meetings) will be held at least 6 times a year, we will provide 2 weeks notice, anyone can come, you can join Transition at any General Meeting, and minutes will be posted on the website.
  • There are changes to the notice periods, quorums, and other administrative details of General Meetings, Annual General Meetings, and Extraordinary General Meetings.
  • Cheques will need to be signed by two members of the Core Group.
  • Core Group members can only serve four consecutive terms.

See you there!
